Refocus your faith by giving up control - Devotional Day 9

I pray that out of this 10 day devotional you understand what it means to be dependent on God. As you learn to shift your control and lift him up, you will soon see that it is so much better that way. You don't have to be bound, or chained to the things that burden you. He came to set you free. Before you know it you're going to look back and say, "wow, God really heard me and I am now living in answered prayers." To surrender isn't easy at all - to not stress about the future, stress about getting hurt, whats going to happen tomorrow, and all the things only takes you further away from him. So where do you begin this journey?

My advice would be to first take notice of the habit, or thought that sucks up your energy the most. The one that leaves you sad, angry, stressed, anxious, whatever that habit or repeated thought is, grab it. Notice it and acknowledge it. It is best to start with one thought or habit at a time than to want to tackle all of our flaws. In this way you are going to be able to notice when you are spiraling and give it to God. Second, find a bible verse that resonates with you and write it down somewhere. You're then going to put that verse somewhere that you can see it often, whether thats your phone, or if you're like me and you spend a lot time in the kitchen put it next to the stove. Anytime you find yourself trigged, go to that verse, repeat it as many times as you like and then say this small prayer "Lord not my will but yours. I know you are in control, I know you got me. You are in control" I know this doesn't seem like a lot, but believe me when I say that when you start to become intentional about how you give God control, good things start to happen.

Memory verse
Psalms 4:8
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.

Prayer
God I thank you for these words. I thank you because you have sent your son to set me free. I don't have to be chained to my thoughts or bad habits, I can give them to you. You will lighten my burden and you will bring my heart peace. Lord I pray that you would help me to love you so passionately that I can slowly learn to depend on you for all things. I am merely human, but you are God almighty and all I need is faith of a mustard seed and you will move mountains. In Jesus' name, Amen.
