Refocus your faith by giving up control - Devotional Day 2

So how do we start giving up that control? Many of us are control freaks, want everything done a certain way, maybe our thoughts are the one thing we can't control. You end up in a spiral in your own thoughts, creating your own situation that hasn't even happened yet. Or maybe you're obsessed with thinking a certain negative thought pattern, the list literally goes on...

Let me share with you what I was giving up control on. My marriage faced great trials with trust and I felt like I had to constantly look over my shoulder, had my walls up to protect myself, and I had the need to be a step ahead. I was constantly checking his phone, thinking negatively about our situation, making up scenes in my head, and thats just a few to name. It was exhausting living this way and feeling like I had no control. So thats my first piece of advice

Acknowledging that you don't have control over others. Over what they say, do, how they react, zero. No control. But something you do have control over is you. You can control the way you think, things you say, how you react, what you do.  I remember times being trigged and instead of obsessing over it, I began praying. It took that intentionality to really take a hold of my negative patterns. Tomorrow I'll be sharing the verse that really got me through but basically I would read it over and over. I'd say "God you are in control, relieve me from these negative thought patterns. You are in control, you are in control. Release these thoughts" It was repetition, but I really just tried to give it all to him.

God wants us to sit with him and give up that control. We are not God and he is the powerful and almighty one. To act in such a way is probably offensive to him. I am not saying that having a sense of control in your life is wrong, what I am saying is that when you try to be in control to achieve your own goal or stop something from happening by your strength is where I believe its wrong.

Let's change the perspective and trust God with our life. He is faithful to provide a future, he is faithful to heal us, he is faithful to provide all the fruits needed for your life. It's up to us to have faith in him and to stop the obsessive control act.

Whats something you have trouble letting go of? Come back tomorrow for our next move on refocusing our faith by giving up our control.

Memory verse
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank you that you are in control of all things. Help me and anyone reading this to acknowledge that we have no control over the people around us, or the things happening around us. We have full control on how we will lift you up through our thoughts, actions, and words. Help us to exalt you always, to remember that the plans you have for us is far greater than what we can ever imagine. You care for us, and you love us, and sometimes our flesh comes in the way of us truly letting go and letting you do what you are best at. Reveal to me the areas that I am trying to be in control of and help me to let go. In your name, amen.

  1. Giving up control in a tough situation is the hardest thing to do. But God is the one who helps us overcome hard situations in our life.

  2. I almost feel like this was for me.. that you wrote this to be my reminder. I’m actually going to screenshot this and have it where I can read it daily. I have a hard time of wanting to be in control, lately I’ve been out of my comfort zone, as I’m doing my best to give God all control. It’s not easy, but I know it is all worth it. He has a plan, and as long as I can continue to remember that “he is faithful to provide all the fruits needed for your life” I know we will be okay. Thank you Valeria for this message.
